Do I need to be fit?

If you can climb a ladder unaided you will be fine.  Some degree of fitness is required as it is a high ropes challenge course.  You MUST be free from injury to complete the course.

What if I have an existing Injury or medical condition?

Safety is our highest priority.  We are not medically qualified to assess your suitability on our tree top aerial assault course and whether it is safe for you to participate in or not but we do have a duty of care to all our customers.  We do not recommend participating if you have a existing injury or serious medical condition without medical approval and recommendations. You will be unable to climb if you have anything fractured, sprained, broken or in a cast.   If you have not notified us before the session, then our instructors reserve the right to refuse entry to the course on the day if they feel it is not safe to participate or the safe management of the whole session will be compromised.   Further medical advice will need to be obtained by the climber from a qualified medical professional in terms of suitability and the climber with the medical issue/injury will be given a credit to come back at another time.  We regret we can not offer a whole group a change of session should one member be unable to climb due to a existing medical condition or injury .   Our course is a high ropes tree top adventure at height, includes impact zip landings from 13 metre drops and has elements that are unstable and difficult to negotiate.  If you are seeking medical advice from a medical professional regarding taking part, please give them a copy of the disclaimer form so they can see the risks involved in participating so they can give advise you correctly.  We ask that we are informed as soon as possible if you have any medical conditions or existing injuries prior to your session, so we can safely manage the session on the day,  please call us on 01865 410074 to discuss further prior to your session.

If you are Asthmatic, you MUST have your inhaler with you at all times and it must be securely attached.  We can not allow any climbers who are asthmatic on our course without the correct medication to treat them, up in the trees regardless of whether it is occasional/slight Asthma, no attack for many years or the inhaler is hardly used.  There are many different allergens and irritants in the tree tops, and the tree top adventure is a aerial assault course so is very physically demanding.  We regret any climbers with Asthma that do not have the correct medication to treat them will be unable to climb on the day.

Do I need to book in advance?

Yes, we recommend to avoid disappointment you book in advance.  You can book online at http://www.highropesoxford.com/book-online/ or call us on 01865 410074

What happens when I arrive?

We ask all participants to arrive 5-10 minutes before their session start time, this is to sign in, kit up and be harnessed up ready for the start of the safety briefing at the start of your session time.  We can not accommodate for late arrivals, so please arrive in plenty of time. When you arrive, you will sign in at our Climbing cabin, complete your paperwork and meet your leader for the day.  Please ensure you remove all Jewellery, hair is tied back, and you have suitable clothing and footwear on.  We will also inform you at this time, what time from and to, the powerfan will be open for that particular session.  We will then kit you out with your harness and smart belay.  At the session start time, we will take you over to the briefing area for a full safety brief and demonstration.

You will start the course with a 30 minute  safety briefing which includes demonstration and you completing a mini-course to ensure you know how to use the safety equipment and how to negotiate elements.  After completing this, you will start Zone 1, the first of your challenges.  Here you will find elements that prepare you for the rest of your course and check your head for heights.  You will cross some bridges, change levels of height and element difficulty, climb some ladders, cross balance beams and finish with our Zip Slide!  If you have completed Zone 1 comfortably, then you are ready for the rest of the course.

You will then continue on the rest of the challenge course.  you will come across multi-level elements where you can choose what grade of element you complete, if you are still finding your feet you can go for the Blue run, nice and easy, or if you are feeling adventurous you may want to try the red route or brave the black route for the thrill seekers!

There are many ways you can challenge yourself whilst on the course, it may be walking across the wobbly bridge with your hands out to the side, not using the handrails or it may be trying different routes.  As you continue your journey through the trees, your confidence will grow and you can challenge yourself as little or as much as you like.

When you finish the final Zip, you will return to the climbing cabin, where you can either hand back in your safety equipment or you can finish the day off with our 13m/42ft power-fan parachute descender – our grand finale Black element.  Climb your way up the pole, stand on the platform and see if you have the nerves of steel to take the leap of faith.

Do I need to be there early?

You MUST arrive 5-10 Minutes prior to the start of your session for admin and kit up & Harnessing ready for your safety briefing to start promptly at the session start time.  We can not accommodate late arrivals, so arrive in plenty of time.

Is there a charge for parking?

No, Parking is free, please park in the marked bays.  All we ask is for you to observe the speed limits and be aware of children in the car park areas.  Please take extra care through the site and observe the 20 mph speed limit through the site and special care and attention in the carpark where there is a maximum speed limit of 5mph due to children and pedestrians being around.

What do I wear

we recommend warm layered clothing suitable for outdoor activities, such as track suit, long trousers, long sleeved top, suitable footwear such as walking boots/trainers.  Please no ballet pumps, heels or slip on shoes.  Gloves are also a good idea!

Can I bring my camera or camcorder?

Yes you can – we recommend it!!  All we ask that your camera is secured to your persons by a lanyard or camera strap to prevent it falling from height.  We regret we cannot allow any participants on the course without this, and we can not take any responsibility for any loss or damage to equipment taken on the course.  Why not send us some of your pics of you monkeying around!!

Is there somewhere for my belongings?

We do not have any facilities to store your personal belongings.  We have toilets on site for you to change in.

How long does the course take?

The time it takes to complete the course varies due to personal ability, others on the course, weather etc, however we recommend allowing between 2.5-3.5hrs to complete the course.  Some people complete the course quicker than others!  The great thing about our course is it has 3 zones with 3 separate exit points so if you want to do just part of the course and then watch your friends then that’s fine or if you want to do the whole thing that’s great too.  Please note if you are a supervising adult, you must stay up on the course whilst children under your care are still  on there.

Can my family and friends watch me whilst I am on the course?

Yes.  The great thing about our course is your friends and family can see you on all areas of our course.  There is no charge for spectators and there is a picnic area close to Zone 2 and 3 if you want a picnic afterwards!

Is it Safe?

yes, we use the revolutionary Edelrid smart belay system that prevents unintentional disconnection whilst on the course, there will always be one belay attached to the course.  This means the days of spending the whole time whilst your on the course worrying about potential falling from the elements or triple checking your carabiners are long gone.  Now you can spend your time enjoying jumping, leaping and swinging from the trees – monkey style!

I am scared of heights?

Our course has been specifically designed to build your confidence on the elements as you go around the course.  Site 1, is designed to test your head for heights and give you a sense of what the rest of the course is about.  Here you will find some wobbly bridges, easy crossings and a change in height for the zip slide.   If you can complete site 1, you will fly through the rest! Site 2 is a much lower, technical course with our famous skaters paradise crossing! and site 3 is high and technical with its tunnels, gladiator rings and Tarzan swings.  Our challenge course will take you out of your comfort zone, and can be as easy or hard as you like with the different routes (please see course info) and give you a sense of achievement, fun and adrenalin pumping adventure!  Lots of people have completed the course successfully.

What if I Fall?

Because you are attached to our course by a smart belay safety system, if you do slip or fall off the course your harness will catch you, you then find your footing and continue with the course.  We know its usually the fear of falling off whilst on the course, and what will happen that concerns most people, so this is why we cover this in oursafety briefing and demo, you will feel what it is like to fall off the element and be caught by your harness, you will be able to practice how to get back up and then continue with the course, this way if it happens when your up in the trees you will know what to expect! and after all our Indiana Bridge is designed to be as wobbly and unstable as possible, and falling off is great fun!

Can my child do the course on their own?

For our recreational sessions, providing the children are 10+ and a minimum height of 140cm, an adult will be required to supervise your children up in the trees or from the ground* with a ratio of 1 adult supervising 4 under 18′s. (please see course info).  Tree and ground supervisors will attend the safety briefing and will be required to sign a disclaimer to say they take full responsibility for the children in their care.  They will also accompany the children around the course either in the trees or from the ground and must be able see the children and be able to verbally intervene at all times.  If the children are under age/height then the adult supervising must be up in the trees, ground supervision is not available. please see below.

Please note under 18′s that are ground supervised cannot do any Black elements on the course as it is likely that they would need adult intervention and adult support up in the trees and this can not be given from the ground.

We like to be as inclusive as possible and can allow children aged 9.5 years and/or under height (up to 135cm) on our course and children who are 10 years and under height on to our course with additional adult support up in the trees.  1 adult would have to be up in the trees with the child on a ratio of 1 adult per 2 children to ensure they are using the safety equipment correctly and assist them attaching themselves to the belay lines and zip lines, offering additional support and supervision due to the nature of the activities.  Any children under the recommending guidelines would not be able to negotiate and access the black elements throughout the course.  Please note this is only available in recreational sessions not instructor led sessions.  The adult assisting under age/height participants can only supervise 2 children up in the trees even if other members of the group are over the age/height recommendations.  If you would like to check suitability please email us at highropesoxford@yahoo.co.uk

We do run instructor led sessions, both Birthday Parties and Private sessions where our instructors will supervise the children whilst on the course  but there is a extra charge for this.  For Birthday Parties, please see Birthday parties and for private sessions, please call us on 01865 410074.    In all school Half terms and holidays we run full day activities for children only from 10am-4.30pm, that include the high ropes and Lasergaming.

How many children can 1 adult supervise?

1 Adult (over 18 years old) can supervise 4 under 18 year olds at any one time providing they are over 10 years and over 140cm.  By supervise we mean be up in the trees with them supervising or Supervising them from the ground* at all times following the group through the course supervising them using the safety equipment!

Please note under 18′s that are ground supervised cannot do any Black elements on the course as it is likely that they would need adult intervention and adult support up in the trees and this can not be given from the ground.

What if I can’t finish the course?

No problem.  We have 3 separate zones, with 3 exit points so you can stop any time you want, return your equipment back to the climbing cabin and watch the rest of your group finish the course.  Please note no refunds will be made for participants who decide not to complete the course or only do part of the course.

Is there different levels of difficulty?

Our course elements are graded similar to the Ski Run grading system, so there is something for everyone whether you want to take it easy on your first visit to us, or your an adrenalin adventure thrill seeker! Our course is split into 3 Zones, each one starts with a ladder and each one ends with a zip line. Throughout the tree top journey there are opportunities for the thrill seekers to challenge themselves by trying a Black element. Where there is a black element there is always an easier alternative. We do not have separate zones for level of difficulty, we have a tree top route you follow and you can veer off and try something challenging if you wish and then rejoin the route.
Blue – Indicates Easy elements
Red – Intermediate/slightly more challenging elements
Black – Hard Route/Difficult elements – Only under 18?s that are supervised in the trees by an adult can under take black elements due to the difficulty of them and the likelihood of them needing some help to complete them!

What if I am ill on the day?

Unfortunately we can not give refunds for on the day illness or injuries, football finales, change of circumstances etc.  The session has been booked and removed from our system, preventing others booking those spaces.  The booking is transferable to someone else for the same date and time.

How much does it cost?

£29.50 for over 18′s
£24.50 for under 18′s

£1.00 flat  booking fee if booked online, £1.50 booking fee p/p if booked over the phone.  Booking fees are to cover increasingly high card transaction costs imposed by the banks. for groups of 6+ who are paying my credit card, there is an additional 2.5% charge to cover bank fees.

Can I bring my Dog?

No, Our woodland is a private woodland and has a Heronry and other woodland animals on site. There is also other activities taking place at the same time as the ropes course so we are unable to allow dogs on site, even with leads with exception of guide dogs.  You can however walk your dog along one of the many public footpaths nearby, but please ensure you stick to the public footpaths and do not walk on to the Culham no1 site, Lockwood farm or any other private land surrounding our site as you will be stopped by security and be asked to leave the site.  Please ask us for a map with the local walking routes on.

What if it rains?

We are a wet weather activity! The high ropes sessions will still continue, we are used to the Great British Weather and its not uncommon for it to Rain in July – mid summer time!

Bad weather, Rain, light snow and patchy showers are acceptable conditions that do not require cancellation.  We are an all weather provider, and continue subject to access to the site.  In the event thunder and lightning occurs during the session, the session will be stopped, climbers removed from the course, all participants will be taken to a safe area until the bad weather dispersers. We will then put everyone back on the course and  The session will then continue as normal. In the event that weather is so severe that the session has to be cancelled by us, (severe gales, severe snow storms) we will notify you at our earliest convenience and re-schedule your session for another time.  If our venue is operating in adverse weather conditions as normal, and can provide a safe well managed session, in the event you choose to cancel your session, your session will not be re-scheduled, the full balance will still need to be paid and no refunds will be given.

  • Site closure

Under circumstances out of our control, including but not limited to; extreme weather or other natural damages to our site, or other events which may create unacceptable risk to health and safety or the inability to run an acceptable standard of session, we reserve the right to cancel your booking and offer an alternative date.  Our activities are all-weather sports and activities and will normally proceed regardless of weather conditions. In adverse weather conditions you should assume your booking will proceed unless directly advised by us otherwise. We will do our best to keep the site open and check access routes are clear. In the event that bad weather forces the site to close – such as severe snow, we will inform you at the earliest opportunity and re-schedule the booking for another date.   If you can provide us with a mobile number as well at the time of booking this will be useful in the event we needed to contact you on the day of your session.
